In We Have Lion Dance at Home, the head of the Chinese Lion Dance costume is stripped back to a nude, exposed frame of reed, nylon stockings, and copper wire. The body of the lion is made of a blanket printed with the artist’s back, collapsing performer and costume into one surface. When culture is reconstructed in the absence of community, and the dance for two performed solo, celebration begins to look like something uncanny, foreign, and vulnerable.
